PhD Topic: Essays on Alpine orogeny - Formation of the European Alps
Relation between small scale structural patterns and large to global scale tectonic motions. Resolving this problem with modern methods of structural geology (including dating of microstructures), petrology, geochemistry and geophysics on the example of the European Alps and its relevance in the Himalayan-Alpine orogen.
Further, the formation of (multiply deformed) gneiss domes and their significance during orogenesis. The Lepontine gneiss dome in the central European Alps serves as a case study.
